Vive Live

UI/UX DESIGN • ANIMATION

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Australia, like the rest of the world, faced unprecedented challenges that disrupted daily life and businesses. Among the hardest hit were the fitness industry and its clientele. Gyms closed, leaving trainers jobless and fitness enthusiasts needing a place to exercise. Amidst this, two entrepreneurs, Jonny and Donald, envisioned a digital solution to connect trainers with users remotely. Thus, Vive Live was born—a platform designed for live-streaming fitness classes, allowing trainers to earn and users to stay fit from the safety of their homes.

Research Statement & Goals

The primary goals of our research were to deeply understand the specific needs and preferences of both trainers and users and to use these insights to design a platform that effectively catered to both groups. We aimed to create a solution that not only bridged the gap caused by the pandemic but also enhanced the overall fitness experience in a virtual setting.

Our research identified two critical personas within the Vive Live ecosystem:

We combined qualitative methods (interviews and usability testing) with quantitative surveys to comprehensively understand our user's needs and behaviours. Stakeholders were involved in the process to ensure alignment with business goals. Each interview lasted about 30 minutes, with 20 users and 10 trainers participating.

  • Fitness Trainers and Instructors

Professionals seeking an online platform to continue teaching and earn income. They require tools for easy session management, engagement tracking, and reliable payment processing.

  • Fitness Enthusiasts

Individuals looking for convenient, effective ways to continue their fitness routines at home. They value personalized workout recommendations, interactive sessions, and a sense of community.

Findings & Insights

  • Enthusiasts expressed a strong preference for personalized workout plans that align with their fitness goals and progress.

  • A system to track progress and rewards for consistent participation was deemed essential for keeping enthusiasts motivated.

  • A platform that is easy to navigate and use is crucial for both instructors and enthusiasts to quickly adapt to the online fitness model.

Setting up the action

Through brainstorming, our team generated a wealth of ideas, which were subsequently distilled into sketches. These sketches served to visualize the user experience and define the platform's information architecture, laying the groundwork for a user-centric design.

Ideas to Action

After finalizing our IA, we crafted a wireframe to outline Vive Live's structure and flow. We then established a consistent visual language, including typography, colour palette, and card designs, to give Vive Live cohesive look.

Based on the insights gathered, we developed functionalities and enhanced the user experience for Vive Live, focusing on:

  • Easily navigable categories for users to find workouts.

  • Straightforward access to live streaming and booking options.

  • A feed to check trending activities and follow trainers' updates.

Intuitive and Personalized Experience:

Rewards

A system where progress is rewarded with medals, motivating users to stay consistent.

Chat Support

Real-time assistance for users, enhancing communication and support.

Trainer Promotion and Global Discovery

  • Various methods for trainers to promote their courses.

  • A global search feature enabling trainers to find customers around the world easily.

Next steps and recommendations

Following the research, we recommended ongoing user feedback sessions, A/B testing of new features, and continuous monitoring of platform analytics to refine and adapt the user experience further.
